ANCHORAGE – Today, Mayor Ethan Berkowitz announced plans to hold a “Clean-Up Day” on Ship Creek Trail meeting at Kings Landing and working towards Tyson Elementary on Wednesday, March 9th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. as part of AmeriCorps Week of Service. The Ship Creek trail connects downtown to the Mountain View neighborhood.

“AmeriCorps is a great organization that’s about giving back to one’s community, and I’m proud to support the program’s mission of volunteering,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz. “With the help of AmeriCorps members and volunteers, we can clean-up Ship Creek Trail, help attract more trail users, and improve the water quality of the creek’s fishery.”

Removing litter on and around the Ship Creek Trail will protect the waterway, protect the fish and draw more users to the Municipality’s most underutilized trail.

The Mayor’s Office, Anchorage based AmeriCorps members and alums, and community volunteers will pick up litter and beautify Ship Creek Trail’s scenic path. The event details are:

·         The clean-up group will start at Kings Landing and travel as far as Tyson Elementary.

·         The event will go from 3:30- 5:30 p.m.

·         Clean-up supplies will be provided by the Mayor’s office, except for gloves.
